Library Policies


-
All
library users are expected to respect the right of others
to study in a quiet atmosphere. It is the staff’s
responsibility to enforce the rule of silence and as such
are authorized to confiscate identification card of students
who engage in discussions and in loud and extended conversations
in the library and turn it over to the Director of Student
Affairs.

Responsible
conduct must be observed in the libraries at all times.
. Students who engage in disruptive and in inappropriate
behaviors will be asked to leave the library.

Accounting columnar and other class projects that require
the use of Manila paper, pentel pen, scissors and related
equipment should not be done in the library.
-
Cellular phones, beepers and other disruptive devices should
be deactivated when entering the Library.
-
Smoking, eating, and drinking are not permitted in the library.

CONTROL
POLICIES
-
Library users should deposit their bags in the depository
counter upon entering the library. However, cash or
any valuables should be removed, for the library shall
not be held liable for whatever is lost in the bags
when deposited. Lost claim card is assessed a fee of
twenty pesos.

Students should wear their valid Ateneo Identification
Card upon entering the library and during her/his stay
in the library premises.

Upon exit, library users are required to open and show
the contents of their bags, folders, and other kinds
of receptacles to the checker. This is a standard operating
procedure in an open stack system.

Overdue books are not allowed to be brought out of the
library until renewed.

CIRCULATION
POLICIES
-
All library materials to be borrowed should be charged
out at the circulation counter. The user should present
his valid Ateneo ID upon borrowing. Borrowing by proxy
and authorization letter is not allowed. Each borrower
is held responsible for all the books drawn on his name.

Borrowed library materials are subject to recall upon
expiration of the loan period or at anytime if needed
for class use.
-
Students with overdue books or standing accounts will
not be allowed to borrow until the accounts are settled
and the overdue books are renewed or returned.
-
Davao Studies, Fil/Ref. And General reference books,
such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, books
in sets are to be read in the library only.
-
Journals, newspapers and magazines are to read in the
periodical section only.

LOAN
PERIODS
Students
may borrow six (6) books at a time and may renew them if
no one has placed a reservation. A book may be renewed once
only to give others the opportunity to borrow the book.
The following are the number of books may be borrowed on
specific category and the number of days maybe kept.

RESERVED
POLICIES
-
Reserved books maybe used for one (1) hour. Renewal
is allowed if there is no demand by another user. These
books may be signed out or noon break and overnight
use. These should be returned not later than 1:30 P.M.
and 8:00 A.M. respectively.

Theses and dissertations are to be used inside the library
only and are strictly not to be photocopied.
-
Prior to final examination week and after the deadline
for returning of books is set, General Circulation books
are considered Reserved.
CIRCULATION
BOOKS - A fine of one (P1.00) per day for the first
five days excluding holidays and Sundays. Two pesos (P2.00)
is fined on the 6th day until the books is returned.
RESERVED
BOOKS - A fine of one peso (P1.00) per hour or an
equivalent of twelve pesos (P12.00) for each full day.
LOST
BOOK must be reported at once and replaced or paid
by the borrower. Exact replacement copy of the book is required,
plus fifty pesos (P50.00) to cover handling and processing
cost. In the event that the reported lost book is found, only
the usual fine is charged.
DAMAGED
ON RETURNED BOOK. Borrowers are responsible for protecting
any library material in their possession against damage. Any
damage on returned book or periodicals is charged to the last
borrower. Hence, borrowers should inspect the library materials
they borrow before leaving the circulation counter.
CHARGED
FOR LOST BOOK AND DAMAGED BOOK shall be computed
at the current effective exchange rate of the book trade multiplied
by three (3x) if it is a foreign publication, and by two (2x)
if it is local publication.
STEALING
AND MUTILATING - Anyone found guilty of stealing
and mutilating any library materials will be liable to grave
disciplinary action sanctioned by CHED, depending on the gravity
of the offence.
No
violation of rules and regulations of the library will be
excused on the plea of ignorance.

FACULTY
GUIDELINES
-
ENTRANCE:
For security reason, faculty members not known to the
entrance Guard are expected to present their valid Ateneo
I.D. New and Part-time faculty who have not yet secured
their I.D. may present a certification from their Division.

EXIT:
Faculty members may bring their bags inside the library
but are required to open and show the contents of their
bags to the checker upon exit. This is a standard operating
procedure in an open stack system.

BOOK
SELECTION: Faculty are encourage to actively
participate in the selection of books for the library.
Forms on which to write the complete bibliographic data
of the book to be recommended are available at the circulation
counter.

NEWLY
PROCESSED BOOKS: Bibliography of newly processed
books is posted on the Faculty Lounge Bulletin Board.
These books are displayed in the Faculty Reading Room
for a week. Members of the faculty are given the priority
to examine and borrow these books.

BOOK
LOANS: Faculty members are expected to present
their valid Ateneo I.D. upon borrowing (until the official
faculty list will be available). Full-time faculty may
borrow 12 books for a semester, and additional 2 books
for a period of one month. Part-time faculty may borrow
4 books for one month and may renew these books every
month until the semester ends.

OVERDUE
BOOKS: Faculty are not charged with overdue
fines, however, they cannot borrow until the overdue
library materials are returned or renewed. Books to
be renewed should be brought to the library for proper
processing and recording.

RESERVED
BOOKS: Faculty can request to place some books
on Reserved for their student's collateral reading.
Forms for this purpose are available at the Reserved
Section.
