Fr. Mateo Gisbert, SJ Library

The Fr. Mateo Gisbert, SJ Library is located at the Gisbert Building, beginning from the 2nd floor up to the 5th floor. It serves students and faculty in the Undergraduate and Graduate levels. Each floor is provided with Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) terminals.

CIRCULATION SECTION

The Circulation Section is located on the 2nd floor of Fr. Mateo Gisbert, SJ Library. It accommodates students, faculty, and researchers who wish to loan out, return, and place a hold on books held by the University Libraries.
Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) terminals are provided in this section to help library users search for materials they wish to access and borrow for home use. The Electronic Resources Section (ERS) is also located in this section. Computer units are available to access the university subscribed Research Databases.

Saturday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

COLLECTION ACCESS

The library users can access the collections in all unit libraries, including research databases. Borrowing privileges are available for the ADDU Higher Education community, including students, faculty and staff. Loan out items and return materials at the circulation desk of all unit libraries. Administrators, faculty members, and students from AdDU Matina and Bangkal campus may use the University Libraries’ facilities and are required to present valid AdDU ID. Administrators and faculty members at AdDU Matina Campus may borrow library materials at the University Library, Jacinto Campus, through interlibrary loan (ILL). AdDU Alumni may access and use the library’s collection and facilities on Saturdays. Visiting Researchers from schools, colleges, and universities in Davao City who are members of PLAI-DRLC will be allowed to use the AdDU library facilities on Saturday. Present certification or filled-up Interlibrary Use form signed by an authorized librarian from their institution and a valid school I.D. with a picture. The circulation section maintains and implements policies related to the circulation of library materials.

POLICIES

  • Library users with valid ADDU I.D. cards are allowed to check out library materials.
  • Borrowing by proxy and authorization letter is not allowed. Library patrons should borrow the books personally at the Circulation Counter.
  • Borrowers should inspect and collate the library materials borrowed before leaving the Circulation Counter. Any damages on borrowed books will be charged to the last borrower.
  • The library reserves the right to recall if other users request such library materials.
  • Overdue books are not allowed to be brought out of the library unless renewed.
  • Students with overdue books and outstanding accounts will not be allowed to borrow until the accounts are settled and the overdue books are returned or renewed.
  • Davao Studies, Rizaliana, FiR (Filipiniana/Reference), and General Reference books such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases and books in sets are to be read within the library only.

BORROWING PRIVILEGES
Students (Graduate, Law, & Undergraduate)
A student may borrow fifteen (15) books at a time and may renew them if no one has placed a reservation. A book can only be renewed once to give others the opportunity to borrow.

  • Full-time Faculty members may borrow twenty (20) books at a time for one semester.
  • Part-time Faculty members may borrow ten (10) books at a time for ninety (90) days and may renew them for another 90 days if no one has placed a reservation.
  • Non-teaching staff borrow ten (10) books at a time for 30 (thirty) days and may renew them for another 30 days if no one has placed a reservation.

CONFIDENTIALITY OF PATRON RECORDS

It is the policy of the University Library to safeguard the individual’s right to privacy. The University Library maintains the confidentiality of records and does not disclose the borrower’s name without his/her consent.

RECALL/RENEWALS

  • The library reserves the right to recall if other users request such library materials.
  • Library patrons may renew their borrowed books online or bring them to the charging desk to extend their due date.
  • A book can only be renewed once to give others the opportunity to borrow.
  • Patrons with library obligations will be blocked from online renewal. Please see the circulation in charge in this regard.

FINES AND PENALTIES

Faculty and Staff

  • Faculty members and staff are not charged with overdue fines. However, they cannot borrow until the overdue materials are returned or renewed and accounts for lost books are settled

Students (Graduate, Law, and Undergraduate)

  • Php 5.00/day for overdue General Circulation books.
  • Php 2.00/hr or Php 24.00/day for overdue Reserved books.
  • A lost book must be reported immediately and replaced or paid by the borrower. An exact replacement copy of the book is required, plus one hundred pesos (Php 100.00) processing cost. In the event that the reported lost book is found, only the usual fine is charged.
  • The charge for a lost and damaged book shall be computed at the current effective exchange rate of the book trade multiplied by three (3x) for foreign publication, and by two (2x) for local publication, and one hundred pesos (Php 100.00) for processing cost.
  • Any damages on the borrowed book will be charged to the last borrower with a corresponding minimum fee of Php150.00.

RESERVE & GRADUATE SECTION

  • Located on the 3rd floor of the Main Library, it has Study and Reading Areas for Graduate Students and Undergraduate Students.
  • The Reserve & Graduate Counter contains theses, dissertations and books selected by the faculty members as required reading for their classes. Theses and dissertations are to be used within the library premise only.

GENERAL CIRCULATION BOOKSTACK

  • Also on the 3rd Floor of the Main Library, is the General Circulation Book Stack which contains books to be borrowed for home use.
  • The books are arranged according to Dewey Decimal Classification System and Library of Congress Classification since the Library is now on the process of converting all collections to Library of Congress Classification.

FILIPINIANA & REFERENCE SECTION

The Filipiniana & Reference Section is located on the 4th floor of the Main Library.

  • The Filipiniana Section contains Filipiniana books which are publications  on or about the Philippines, written by Filipino or foreign authors published in the Philippines or abroad.
  • Reference Section contains a large collection of reference books such as encyclopedias, almanacs, dictionaries, yearbooks and others.
  • It also houses smaller collections such as the Vertical Files, Rizaliana, which are books about Dr. Jose Rizal and the Davao Studies, which are collection of materials about Davao
  • The Filipiniana & Reference Counter keeps Filipiniana and Reference reserve books.

  • The Filipiniana Section contains Filipiniana books which are publications  on or about the Philippines, written by Filipino or foreign authors published in the Philippines or abroad.

PERIODICAL SECTION

  • The Periodical Section is located on the 5th floor of the Main Library. It keeps current and retrospective issues of newspapers, magazines and journals that are subscribed or donated to the university. Some periodicals are displayed in an open rack and library users are free to browse them.
  • The Periodical Counter keeps current magazines, journals and newspapers. Users may read them upon request.
