Re:                  New Library Policy for Turnitin Instructor Accounts with Students Using Non-AdDU Email Addresses in Active Classes

The University Library observed that some faculty members with Turnitin Instructor accounts and active classes have allowed students to join their Turnitin classes using non-AdDU email accounts. Since 2015, it has been our practice to enroll students in Turnitin using the AdDU email for verification purposes since we have limited subscriptions. This way, it will be easier for Librarians to manage the accounts and verify that the student is officially enrolled to avail of this service. As of this time, there are 104 unverified students with non-AdDU email addresses who are using the university’s Turnitin subscription.

In this light, the University Library will implement a new policy to address this concern and continue providing Turnitin accounts to faculty members and students in the higher education unit.

New Policy

Please be informed that starting October 2024, all instructor accounts with enrolled students in their active class who are not using the addu.edu.ph email domain will be temporarily set on locked status. Instructors can access their class until the recommended actions are taken.

Recommended Actions

  1. Backup and Download: Kindly backup your paper or your student’s previously submitted papers and download them to your local or personal drive. This will ensure you have a permanent copy of your documents, which can be re-uploaded if necessary. Please refer to the Turnitin Guides at https://guides.turnitin.com/hc/en-us/articles/23505750835085-Downloading-a-Similarity-Report-as-a-student for the specific instructions.

  1. Remove and Add: Instructors are advised to remove students from their classes if they are using non-AdDU email addresses. They should then re-add the students using their addu.edu.ph email addresses.

  1. Instructors using their personal email addresses to enroll as students in their classes are advised to use their AdDU email addresses instead. In Turnitin, instructors can have dual features (as an instructor and student) using one email address.

We understand that this transition may raise some difficulties, but we are here to help you. Please email univ.library@addu.edu.ph or call local 8235 for clarifications and assistance.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
